Wow, it’s dusty in here. Well, four months adds up. Need to change a few light bulbs, too. Okay, deep breath, pull up a comfy chair, and give it a go.

I’m sitting on the couch with Kathleen’s laptop balanced on a lap desk, wondering what the hell I’m doing. She was so determined when she started this blog; of course that may have just been the attitude she was projecting, and she had no idea, either. Let’s go with that, shall we?

I’m Kimberly Bartholomew, Kathleen’s younger sister. I can’t let her work just fade away, as she couldn’t let Kage’s work wither away. What the two of them produced deserves to be remembered, and remain available to folks who may not be fully acquainted with it. I’ll be the one trying to carry on the tales about them. Sadly. it won’t be as witty, but something is better than nothing.

I’m delighted to say that Kathleen and Kage’s literary agent, the Virginia Kidd Agency (Praise them with great praise!) is actively pursuing a new publisher for their works. I will let people know as things progress. I have decided to try and complete Kate’s zombie story. We had talked about it extensively before she died, and she left notes, so I feel slightly comfortable forging (or blundering!) ahead. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of feedback from the unfortunates I get to read it for me.

This won’t be daily. I’ll post as things occur. I don’t know as many of the backstories – you had to be in the car on the long rides to there and back again to know all of that, and the only two witnesses are now gone. I’ll share what I know, and invite everyone to chime in with anything they know. We’re all in this together now, boys and girls. Good luck to us all!

About Kate

I am Kage Baker's sister. Kage was/is a well-known science fiction writer, who died on January 31, 2010. She told me to keep her work going - I'm doing that. This blog will document the process.

I’m sorry to learn that Kathleen lost her battle. She fought hard. And Kage’s books deserve to live on and find new audiences, for sure.

  7. Kim, Thank you so much for taking on this enormous task. No one is better qualified than you, who knew them both so well. I look forward to what you have to say and will gladly fill in any details that seem relevant. I cherish my years with ST. Albans and have many fond memories. BTW, my old site ocannon36@msn.com is no longer active. ocannon@verizon.net is where anyone who wishes may contact me. Still going strong at88, gary.

Hi Kimberly, I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a wonderful lady and I have some very fond memories of her. One time at IHHS, I was about 2,and someone had given me a balloon, but it got away from me and went to the ceiling. Kathleen climbed up on one of the lunch tables and got it down for me. She was my hero that day.

  11. Thank you for doing this, Kimberly. Is there any chance of seeing more of the ghoul story? The snippet of it that Kathleen posted here has stayed with me and I’d love to know more.

Dear Kimberly,  I just saw in the IHHS bulletin that Kathleen had passed away. I send my deepest sympathies; I felt horrible for a long time after losing my sister Kate. i recently retired and have two granddaughters whom I adore, though i am sad that they will not know their aunt except through her writing. Please keep me posted. Anne Baker

It had been so long since her last post that I feared/worried/assumed that something had happened to her. I’m sorry to hear of her passing. We can only hope that she’s with her beloved sister again, having adventures, plotting great stories, laughing a whole lot.

I never had the joy of actually meeting Kage or Kathleen, I only know them through their wonderful writing. I consider myself an ‘OAF’, Only A Fan.

Thank you for continuing what they started.
